Girly Birthday Blog Hop

Hi, everyone!  Welcome to Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons and the Girly Birthday Blog Hop.  If you are coming here from Sherrie's blog, then you are in the right place.  If you happened upon this post and would like to start from the beginning, go visit Candace's blog, Scrappin' 2 Little Princesses.

Well, it's Candace's birthday this week, so Candace is having this hop to celebrate.  We're making all sorts of girly projects, and you'll have the chance to win some FANTASTIC blog hop candy along the way.  Plus, you'll be entered to win a $15 gift certificate to Pink By Design or a $20 gift card to EAD Designs if you visit all the blogs in the hop and leave comments by 11:59pm EST on September 22.

For my project, I decided to make some girly thank you notes.  Here they are:

I made 6 A2 cards in all, each with a different girly cut I got from my Forever Young cartridge.  The patterned paper is from K&Co.'s Sparkly Sweet stack, and the sentiment is from Pink By Design's Here Comes the Bride stamp set.  The scalloped circle is a 3" punch, and the circle is a 2.75" punch.  I punched the border with a Fiskars punch, added a little ribbon and some ink, and my thank you cards were all done. It may be hard to tell from the photos, but the base of the card is a plum color, not brown. :)

Now, what would a blog hop be without some GIRLY BLOG CANDY???

21!

Happy Monday, everyone!  It's my day to share over at the Pink By Design Blog, and I want to share a card I made for my sister-in-law, who is turning 21 this week.  When I e-mailed her to see what she wanted for her birthday, she mentioned a gift card (since I couldn't send beer through the mail).  HA!  So, that got me to thinking...maybe I can!  Here's what I came up with:

I decided to use a beer bottle as the 1 in her age. I got the bottle from the Lettering Delights Pucker Up SVG set, and the lime came from the Lettering Delights Oishii SVG set.  I cut the 2 from a font I have on my computer using Make-the-Cut.  And, of course, Pink By Design had the perfect stamp sets to go with my card.  The sentiment came from the  Girls Just Wanna Have Fun set.  Here's what the inside of my card looks like:

The inside sentiment also came from Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.  Here's a little tip: you can tie in patterned papers into your theme using stamps. I added the lime stamp from the PBD Cocktails stamp set to my polka-dots to do just that.
I hope you like my little card!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I hope you'll leave a comment for me...I SO love to read them!  Have a marvelous Monday, everyone!

For the hop today, I actually decided to do a layout.  I KNOW!!! Crazy, right?  I haven't done a layout in quite a while, so I thought I'd try one for this hop.  Here it is:

What do you think?  Does it look Fall-like enough?  :)

Here a close-up of the left-hand page.  I believe the Autumn title was a freebie from SVG Cuts, the tree came from the Lettering Delights Woodsy SVG set, the house, leaves, and rake came from the Lettering Delights Feels Like Autumn SVG set, and the deer came from the Lettering Delights Sweet Nothings SVG set.  I embossed the house with my Argyle Cuttlebug folder, the grass with my Forest Branches folder, and the trees with my Plum Blossom folder.  All of the "wood" on these pages was stamped with my Pink By Design Distressed Wood background stamp.  That long mat will hold some journaling...someday. :)

For the right-hand side of the layout, I used the Lettering Delights Feels Like Autumn SVG set to cut out the tree, the apples, and the bushel of apples.  The owl and branch came from the Lettering Delights Woodsy SVG set.  I inked up everything with my Fluid Chalk inks and added some doodle lines.  Then, I added some ribbon and patterned paper to finish up the photo mats and add balance to the page borders.

Here's a closeup.  To add a little more texture to the leaves on the ground, I crumpled them up and then inked them...one by one.  Trust me, it took FOREVER, but I think it was worth it.

Another closeup.  By the way, the grass was cut with my Martha Stewart grass border punch.

I'm entering this in Love to Crop's Happy Fall Ya'll Challenge.  You should check it out!

Well, I hope you like it.  It took me a really long time to finish it, but I really love it.

Hive Ya Been?

Happy Monday, everyone, and happy Labor Day!  Today is my Design Team day over at Pink By Design, and I have a quick tip and a card to show you today.

Before I share them with you, I have a little confession to make...I really struggle with stamping!  Oh, senitment stamps are no problem, but image and background stamps are a new thing for me and a different story, altogether.  So, I've been learning a lot from my time as a Pink By Design Design Team member...some from the other talented team members, and some from good ol' trial and error.  So, I'm going to share something I discovered through lots or trials and lots of errors!

This tip has to do with background stamps or other larger acrylic stamps.  As I started experimenting, I realized that my background images were never coming out like I wanted them to.  My wonderful fellow DT members shared the tip that I should try stamping on a softer surface, like a mouse pad. That helped a bit, but I was still having all sorts of troubles.  Well, I finally realized that the way I was putting my background stamps on my acrylic block was trapping air bubbles underneath, causing my stamped images to come out all wonky.  So, although I know there must be lots of ways to prevent this, I came up with something that works for me.

I grabbed my brayer and laid one end of my background stamp on my acrylic block.  Then, I used my brayer to press down my stamp, going from one end to another.

Then, viola'!  No air bubbles!  By trying this out today, and using a mouse pad underneath my paper while I was stamping, I was able to get a nice, clean image.  Yay!  Here's the card I made using this new background stamp, which is called Circles.

I got the hive and bee from the Lettering Delights Bee Yourself SVG set.  Of course, I had to add a little Stickles to the yummy honey.

Here's a close up of that awesome new background stamp, which, by the way, is now available for Pre-Order and is on SALE until midnight on Labor Day (along with all the other new releases)!  YAY!

I chose to use an ink that was only slightly darker than my paper so the background was subtle.  I'm really happy with how it turned out!

I also used another AWESOME stamp set called Honey Pie for the sentiment.  This set is currently available through Oh My Crafts.  Stamp of the Month Club members can also get it in the Pink By Design Store.  Here's a close up of the cute sentiment:

Well, I hope you've enjoyed my project for today!  Now, go check out this months other new releases.  If you hurry, you could even get in on the Labor Day Sale!  Thanks for stopping by!

Nifty Fifties Birthday Card

Happy Friday, everyone!  Can you believe it's already September???  Whew!  The year is just flying by.  I am looking forward to fall, though. :)

Well, my father-in-law's birthday is this weekend, so I wanted to show you the card I made for him.  During the last couple of years, he's really gotten into taking dance lessons, so I thought the Nifty Fifties dancers would be perfect for his birthday.  Here's what I came up with:

This card is 5.75 inches square.  All of the cuts came from Nifty Fifties, and the sentiment came from Pink By Design's Birthday, Birthday stamp set (whew, I sure do use that set a LOT).  The little dancers are popped up with some carefully trimmed (tiny pieces of) foam tape.  :)

By the way, did you know that Pink By Design is having a U-Stream tonight at 8 pm CST, where they will be releasing some FABULOUS new stamp sets, including this one?

There will also be a fun project that you can do along with Sarah.  If you'd like to see a materials list, check out the Facebook event.  We hope to see you there! :)

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Hope you have an AWESOME Labor Day weekend!!! :)
